Chapter 51
Truly well-deserved

This exchange makes some future things make a lot more sense, I’m a bit sad it didn’t make it into the donghua. You’ll have to wait, like, a hundred chapters more for any semblance of an explanation though.
Who’s standing on ceremony here, general? You’re the one being super formal, alright.
“I’d rather hurt a myriad by mistake” – the donghua tactfully translated it as “wrong thousands of innocents”. Well… the actual word that was used is “kill”. It can mean other things, but what you think first is absolutely “kill”. However, phrases like “I’ll kill you” and do something “to death” are a lot more common in Chinese and are generally taken less seriously, so I feel like it makes sense to translate it more mildly.
“A single anthole can break an embankment” – a chengyu (idiom), meaning a disaster caused by carelessness.
Again, general Qiu uses Li Bing’s old title (he also did that in the donghua, but it got lost in translation). The phrase about Li Bing’s brother remained in the donghua, but not Li Bing’s own comment about general Qiu’s stubbornness.
